My origins as an artist..? Well, it started in high school with my art teacher, who had heart, soul and talent.
He looked at one of my first drawings and said to me, “Rosemarie, do you know that you are very talented?..
I was surprised.. it was the first thing in my life that I was acknowledged for being “good” at! I did realize that drawing gave me a real sense of self-worth and I found it to be a very enjoyable endeavor.
“What are you going to do after you graduate?”, he asked me in senior year. I hadn’t given it much thought, ..nursing maybe or secretarial work.
But no! …it was a scholarship to Moore College of Art, …which he orchestrated! That was my lucky start!
There have been many turns and shifts in my focus over the years, …but Art, …Art was always the main ingredient of any focus;
…textile designer, illustrator, art teacher, shop owner, craftswoman, florist, jeweler …all wonderful and rewarding endeavors…
But my deepest strongest talent, …I know it is the face, …drawing or sculpting the human face. I can and will do other subjects well, but I will always know that fact, and I am thankful for it… to be able to capture the spirit of a person.
